You're a really good parent who wants to use Respectful Parenting in your home but in the moment, you just can't seem to do it.
But your kid's behavior isn't getting any better, and now, you're feeling guilty because you're still yelling and giving time-outs
(when you know they don't work!).
You're frustrated because...
I get it.
Hi! I'm Sarah, a therapist, Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator & mom of three.
I've read SO MANY parenting books. I even took some of the parenting courses that are available out there.
But one thing was always missing.
When my kid was melting down or refusing to get in the car or hitting their sibling, I got so overwhelmed I couldn't use ANY of the tools I learned.
I finally learned that I needed to shift my perspective from eliminating all my child's "bad behavior" to responding in a way that allowed them to actually change their behavior in the long run. I learned that Respectful Parenting is a long game.
I also realized that there were parts of my own childhood that needed to be healed so I wouldn't be so triggered by my kiddo's age-appropriate behavior.
Once I did that, I was able to stay regulated and help my kids move through these challenging moments, while learning to be responsible, respectful and capable members of society.
And then I started seeing LESS of the "bad" behaviors.
Imagine what it would feel like to...
All without feeling guilty when you inevitably screw it up along the way.
We will even learn how to recover from those mistakes and why those moments are crucial for our kids' emotional development.
Join me on May 18 & June 1 for:
Feel Free to Parent is a 3 hour interactive workshop (2 sessions, 1.5 hours each) for parents of kids aged 2-9 who want to learn practical strategies to implement Respectful Parenting at home, so they can stop yelling and start feeling more connected to their children.
“We went into the workshop knowing that we have been operating with short fuses for a while and needed to try something new to get our kids back on track. The constant nagging, bribing and timeouts were not working at all. Sarah reminded us that kids are doing their best and we need to be mindful of the tone and language we use with them to make them feel respected and heard - just like we want! She taught us how a family meeting can help your kids feel like they are part of the decision making. We learned about bilateral stimulation and how much it can help regulate your emotional state. It was an engaging and thought provoking day. I highly recommend one of her workshops! We started implementing some of her ideas the same day.”
-Mom & Dad of 2 boys (5&3)
At the end of our 3 hours together, you'll walk away with:
Hands-on experience that opens your eyes to how your child might be experiencing your current parenting strategy, and what to do instead.
An understanding of how your own experiences as a child may have an impact on how you respond to your child's behavior. We will take the first steps in the process of Reparenting ourselves so you can show up in a healthier way for your kids.
A "cheat sheet" for how to identify what needs your child is actually trying to communicate through their misguided behavior.
The confidence to parent without rewards and punishments, or fear-based motivation.
Easy to access guides to keep around your house with simple ways to meet the needs your child is trying to communicate so you see less of the "bad behavior".
A step-by-step guide to conduct a Family Meeting at home, and the experience of leading one as a group.

Respectful Parenting can be a shift in how many parents think about raising kids, since many of us were raised with mainstream techniques like time-outs and spanking. If you are parenting with a partner, I recommend both partners attend, since parenting always works better if you are on the same page.
You will spend a total of 3 hours learning and practicing new skills you can start using right away. The break between sessions allows time to use the first half of the material at home, and return with questions we can problem solve as a group!
You will meet a community of like-minded parents who can help you problem-solve solutions to your current parenting challenges.
You will dip your toes into the world of Reparenting yourself, and explore how your own childhood may be impacting the way you are parenting
BONUS OFFER: Download my 50-page workbook, Becoming the Parent You Needed: A Parent's Guide to Reparenting Yourself for just $9.97 ($17 value) with your registration. This will show up as an offer at checkout.
Frequently asked questions
Here are a few answers to our most common questions
Respectful Parenting differs from mainstream parenting in that it shifts the focus away from external motivation (rewards & punishments) toward intrinsic motivation and an understanding of behavior as communication.
Respectful Parenting is based on mutual respect within the family, where parents are both kind and firm at the same time. It helps children develop a sense of significance and belonging through their connection with their parents. The characteristics and life skills that children develop when parents follow a Respectful Parenting approach allow them to see how capable they are and feel encouraged to make good choices without external rewards.
This workshop is experiential, so we will be doing activities that demonstrate various concepts around parenting and what it is like to be a child. If you are not comfortable participating in activities, don't worry. There are always enough folks willing to volunteer that you won't have to if you don't want to. I want everyone to feel safe and comfortable while they learn!
Great question! I strive to provide valuable education at a price that is accessible to as many folks as possible. When I work with a family one on one, my hourly fee is $170. During the first couple of 1:1 sessions, we go over all the information covered in this workshop. My hope is that this workshop will give a foundation for your Respectful Parenting journey at a fraction of the cost of 1:1 support.
I am a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator and was trained by the Positive Discipline Association. Positive Discipline is an education model that falls within the Respectful Parenting lens.
I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boston College with a concentration in Children, Youth and Family studies.
Probably most importantly, I use Positive Discipline (and Respectful Parenting in general) every day at home with my three children.
